Job Openings

Applications from excellent candidates for PhD and Postdoc positions are always welcome!

PhD Positions in Synthetic Organic Chemistry and Asymmetric Metal Catalysis

Subject to the funding situation and/or departure of former coworkers, we may have openings for PhD positions in the research areas of homogeneous transition-metal catalysis, synthetic organic methodology and natural product total synthesis.

Requirements: A first-class Master’s degree in Chemistry is required. Research experience in Organic Chemistry or closely related fields is highly desirable. Highly motivated and talented candidates are encouraged to apply. The initial appointment will be for one year and is subject to annual evaluation and renewal. The normal duration of PhD thesis is 4 years. Further information about the EPFL doctoral program can be found here: phd.epfl.ch

The application should include a CV, copies of transcripts, names and contact details of references (or directly letters of recommendation) and a statement of motivation. Incomplete application will not be considered. Due to time constraints, only applications which will be further considered for eventual on-site interviews are answered. Travel costs for these interviews are paid by us, available to international applicants as well. If you do not get an answer within 2 weeks of initial application, please assume that you application is declined.

The position requires acceptance in the Doctoral Program of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, for which you must file an application at: phd.epfl.ch/edch. You should contact Prof. Cramer for the availability of position and a pre-evaluation of your file before applying to the doctoral school at [email protected].

Postdoctoral Positions

There may be openings in the research areas of homogenous transition-metal catalysis, synthetic organic methodology and natural product total synthesis.

For all applications, please send your candidature to Prof. Nicolai Cramer at [email protected]. Please include a CV, summary of research achievements, names and contact details of references (or directly letters of recommendation) and a letter of motivation. Incomplete application will not be considered. Due to time constraints, only applications which will be further considered for eventual on-site interviews are answered. Travel costs for these interviews are paid by us, available to international applicants as well. If you do not get an answer within 2 weeks of initial application, please assume that you application is declined.  Outstanding candidates who are seeking an external postdoctoral fellowship (Marie-Curie, DFG, DAAD, Humboldt, NSF, NSERC etc.) will be provided with scientific and administrative support.

Master’s Thesis/Research Projects

Master research projects with topics in synthetic organic methodology, asymmetric catalysis, and total synthesis are offered.  EPFL students shall contact directly Prof. Cramer for opportunities. Non-EPFL master students enrolled in a Bologna-recognized European university might be accepted, if they demonstrate excellence in theoretical and practical aspects of chemistry. Master students from foreign university can apply for an ISIC Master Grant to support their Master thesis. ISIC Master Grant applications are evaluated by ISIC and if successful, they provide 1800 CHF per month for a period of max. 6 months. Applications have to be send 4 months before the planned starting date.

Internships

In general, financial support for internships cannot be offered. Request for such support will not be replied.
